Understanding Support at Home — explained simply

Support at Home replaces the Home Care Package program. It can feel complex, with funding levels, quarterly budgets and contribution rules. Our job is to make it clear — so you know exactly what you’re entitled to and what it costs.

What is Support at Home?

Support at Home is the Australian Government’s program helping older people live independently at home for longer. From 1 November 2025 it replaces Home Care Packages, and from July 2027 it will also replace the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. It funds clinical care, support for independence and help with everyday living — with budgets allocated each quarter.

Every budget has three parts

How much you contribute depends on each category — and on your income and assets. Full pensioners pay nothing toward clinical care.

Fully government-funded

Clinical care

Nursing, allied health and care management. No participant contribution, regardless of income.

Shared contribution

Independence

Personal care, social support and respite that keep you independent. Contributions vary by means.

Higher contribution

Everyday living

Domestic help, meals, gardening and transport. Participants contribute more toward these services.

Funding levels

Eight funding levels, set for your needs

After your assessment, My Aged Care places you on one of eight ongoing funding levels — from around $11,000 up to about $78,000 a year. Funding is released as a quarterly budget, and a portion of unspent funds can roll into the next quarter.

Already on a Home Care Package?

If you had a Home Care Package (or were assessed) before 1 November 2025, the Government’s “no worse off” principle means your arrangements are protected during the transition. We’ll review your existing package, explain what changes, and make sure you keep getting the support you rely on.

Approved before 12 September 2024

You move to the matching level automatically — no reassessment. From November 2025 you switch to a quarterly budget and the new contribution model, and your unused funds carry over.

Approved on or after 12 September 2024

You’re assigned a level under the new model, with a quarterly budget from the start. Unused funds held before 31 October 2025 carry over.

Already have a package? We’ll show you exactly what it converts to under Support at Home — download the guide above, or have a quick chat with us.

Support at Home — your questions answered

Will I pay more under Support at Home?

Clinical care (nursing, allied health, care management) is fully government-funded for everyone. You may contribute toward independence and everyday-living services, based on your income and assets. Full Age Pensioners pay the least. We’ll give you a clear, itemised estimate before you commit.

What happened to Home Care Packages?

Home Care Packages were replaced by Support at Home on 1 November 2025. If you were already receiving or approved for a package, the Government’s “no worse off” principle protects your arrangements during the transition.

What is a quarterly budget?

Instead of one annual amount, your funding is released each quarter. A limited portion of unspent funds can carry into the next quarter, helping you plan for larger or seasonal needs.

Is care management really capped at 10%?

Yes. Care-management fees are capped at 10% of your quarterly budget, and AMIX Care keeps every fee transparent so you always know where your funding goes.

Can you help me apply?

Absolutely. We guide you through My Aged Care registration, assessment preparation and provider set-up — in English or Chinese — at no cost or obligation.
